Introduction

OpenCoeli [ce:li] is free open source (GPLv2) software for amateur astronomers. It is fresh new software based on recent technologies. OpenCoeli is nice introduction for serious amateurs to modern astronomy. It is under development, so features described on this page are just planned.

Main goal of project is to develop free, maintanable and easily extendible astronomical application. OpenCoeli is based on Java, JPA, Swing, Spring framework and other libraries. It is using astronomical libraries such as Healpix, SkyView, Pixy2 and JSky. Data are stored in SQL database with position/time/magnitude index. Find out more in Technical Details

OpenCoeli is not 'just another astronomical program'. Thanks to its modern architecture it will offer features such as:

  • voice controled telescope navigation over bluetooth headset (any light under 7+ mag sky sucks)
  • integration with Excel and Matlab
  • find very rare moments for photo expositions without any satelite garbage tracks (position/time index)
  • give me all asteroids which are 30' from bright star and in Orion constellation (position/time/magnitude index)

See planned Features with simple explanations.

Author knows how to do this, but because this is just hobby project, it have limited resources. For now author is implementing base and skycharting. Other features will came with time.

Any help would be very welcomed. Testers, mathematicians, programmers, astronommers, anyone can join this project. Find out more in Getting started

This software is dedicated to memory of Antonín Bečvář and his atlases which started modern astronomical cartography.
